Week 1 Whole30 Recap

Week 1 Whole30 Recap

We made it!!! Week 1 of Whole30 is done. And we survived!

Imagine that 😉

So in these recap posts I think I want to break it down into three parts.  The first being how we felt that week, the second being what we ate and what our favorite meals of that week were, and then the final one being products that we are loving that help BIG time with staying compliant.

Sound good?? Great! Without further ado….

How We Felt-Week 1:

Days 1&2 I felt confident, like oh yeah I’ve got this. No big deal. Then Day 3 hit.  And it hit hard.

Day 3 brought on the hangover/withdrawal period and oh my, it was intense.  I was really easily angered, verrry tired and overall just feeling icky. Kind of like a hangover right? I felt weak, my head hurt and I was nauseous.

This is normal and very common.  It is our bodies way of responding to the detoxing of the old and withdrawal from sugar. At one point I told my husband “Imagine if I was addicted to drugs! No wonder nobody wants to quit!” Haha!

This is crazy and alarming to me.  It just goes to show HOW much sugar impacts our bodies. I have read that it can have the same effects on our bodies as cocaine, and I believe it.

Day 4 I was starting to recover from the withdrawal and hangover but still had mild lingering symptoms.  My appetite started to come back around as the nausea subsided. And my appetite kept coming back and never quite stopped…

Day 5 brought HUNGER. Intense, won’t go away hunger.  I was so hungry all the time. I started eating bigger meals so I wouldn’t snack but still ended up with one snack.

Day 6 was the first day I felt amazing. Back to normal but even better.  My hunger regulated, I felt great, I was happy with my food. We even managed to go out to eat and stay compliant!

Now it’s Day 7 and I’m looking forward to the new week.  I am expecting to hit a slump at the end of this week, mostly out of boredom and my rebellious nature fighting the restrictive nature of the Whole30.

We loved all of these meals but probably our favorite was the 5 Ingredient Sausage Gravy or the Simple Shepherds Pie. Both of those meals were just as good if not better than the originals.  They also were both supppper easy, with minimal ingredients.

I do realize that we are a little starch/carb heavy in this week’s meals but we live in Michigan and I am passionate about buying local as much as possible.  Which in the winter means storage crops for us.  So we basically have root crops, cabbage, winter squash and anything we canned/freezed before winter. But I believe it’s just as God would have it 🙂 He designed the seasons for a reason and I’ll trust in that.

Products We Love (that make Whole30 easier):

Vital Proteins Gelatin or Collagen– We regularly buy this with or without Whole30 restrictions. We love bullet proof style coffee with this added every single morning.  It jump starts our metabolisms and gives us energy through the roof. The fats also help satiate hunger and make it extra yummy.

Chosen Foods Avocado Oil– this is a MUST for all the delicious sauces we make that keep us compliant. It is naturally refined and has a mild taste that makes the best mayo but it can also be used for frying stuff.

Dastony Sprouted Almond Butter– this almond butter is sprouted for increased digestion and nutrient absorption, has no sweetner, and is great with celery!

Aidells Chicken Sausages– compliant sausages that make a super quick meal when paired with whatever veggies are on hand.

Applegate Hot Dogs– nitrate, crap free hot dogs that are kid approved make another quick meal option.
