Labor Aide: A Replenishing Drink To Get You Through Labor

|Labor Aide: A Replenishing Drink To Get You Through Labor|

When I was in labor this drink was amazing. It tastes great, was refreshing and all of the ingredients were helping me in some way. I loved it so much that I drank it after labor too. In fact I plan on making some for fun because it’s yummy and would be great after an intense workout. It would also be good for sick kiddos or husbands.

A little about the ingredients:

Red Raspberry Leaf Tea:

Red raspberry leaf has been known for a long time to help women with their monthly cycles. It also helps with toning of the uterus which is great news for pregnant women. A toned uterus= stronger contractions which = shorter labor. (This is my favorite brand.)

Coconut Water:

Coconut water is basically nature’s Gatorade. It is full of electrolytes and potassium. Both of which are needed to sustain and help our bodies to recover from intense work (like labor). Be sure to get a brand that doesn’t have nasty additives or preservatives, like this one.

Raw Honey:

Raw honey is one of the easiest sugars to digest making it good for keeping our energy up with out a spike and crash effect. Raw honey is also full of minerals and tastes great.

Salt:

Sea salt is also full of minerals and electrolytes (source). But be sure to get real salt. I like to use pink Himalayan sea salt like this one.

Trace Mineral Drops:

Because our soils have been depleted of vital minerals from the industrialization of agriculture most of us are deficient of many of these important minerals. Trace mineral drops provide these minerals that most of us are lacking. They don’t taste and last a long time. (You can find them here.)

There are various other great recipes out there too, like this one. Try one, try all, make one of your own up (like I did), or just use what you have on hand but you won’t regret having some sort of replenishing drink when it comes down to the hardest workout of your life-labor that is.

The Recipe:

2 cups Coconut Water (find here)
2 cups hot water
2 bags Red Raspberry Leaf Tea or 2tbsp of loose leaf tea (find here)
½ cup of fresh lemon juice
¼ cup of raw honey
Pinch of sea salt (find here)
3-5 trace mineral drops (find here)

Instructions:

Step 1:
Boil 2 cups of water. Pour into a mason jar or other heat proof container. Add the tea bags and steep for about 15 minutes.
Step 2:
Toss the tea bags (or compost them) and add all other ingredients. Shake or stir well.
Step 3:
Refrigerate until needed. Serve cold. Should keep for up to a week.
